Why I’ve Started Choosing Digital Over Film…

Hey there, fellow photographer!

Let’s have a heart-to-heart about a dilemma I face every time I shoot (and maybe you too?): shooting digital versus shooting film.

As someone who’s been in the business for a long time, I want to share my perspective on why shooting digital has NOW become my preferred choice. (Gasp!) So, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s dive into this topic together.

Flexibility and Instant Gratification:

  • When you shoot digitally, you have the power to adjust settings on the fly, ensuring you capture that perfect shot, regardless of lighting conditions.
  • Say goodbye to waiting for film processing. With digital, you can review and share your images instantly, satisfying your clients’ excitement and building their trust.

Embracing the Technological Revolution:

  • Digital cameras have evolved tremendously, offering high-resolution sensors, advanced autofocus systems, and impressive low-light performance.
  • By embracing the latest technology, you’ll stay on top of your game, meeting the evolving demands of your clients and showcasing your expertise.

Cost and Efficiency:

  • Film photography can eat away at your budget with recurring costs for film rolls, development, and printing.
  • By shooting digital, you eliminate these expenses, allowing you to invest in top-notch gear, marketing efforts, or simply treating yourself to some well-deserved downtime.

Post-Production Control:

  • In the digital world, you have complete control over the editing process, ensuring consistent and cohesive results throughout your portfolio.
  • Whether you prefer a clean and timeless aesthetic or want to experiment with bold and creative editing styles, digital tools empower you to showcase your unique artistic vision.

Adaptability to Client Needs:

  • In today’s fast-paced digital world, clients expect quick turnaround times and the ability to effortlessly share their images on social media.
  • Shooting digital enables you to meet these expectations, delivering a polished and timely product that leaves your clients thrilled and eager to recommend you to others.

If you’re like me, film photography holds a special place in your heart because it evokes nostalgia and a sense of artistry. However, as wedding photographers striving to meet the demands of today’s couples, shooting digital offers a multitude of benefits. From instant gratification to creative control and adaptability, digital photography aligns with our clients’ needs, allowing us to provide exceptional service and stay at the top of our game.
