#1 Mistake Photogs Make When Trying to Stand Out

“It’s hard to stand out when the photography market is so saturated…”

Unpopular opinion: I totally disagree!

When it comes to standing out from your competition, the real issue isn’t saturation! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

The issue is whether you are identifying and communicating what makes your business unique and valuable to your ideal clients.

If you are able to do that, then the saturation around you simply becomes white noise that makes your unique business offerings shine even brighter. 💡

However, in the process of discovering what makes your business unique, you may be tempted to step down an easier, more comfortable path that doesn’t require as much back end work…

Sometimes we can panic when we feel like we’re falling behind our competition and take shortcuts that don’t have lasting effects and are a waste of time and resources.

In today’s post, I’m sharing:

  • One of the common and ineffective mistakes photographers make when trying to stand out from others
  • And… What you need to do instead to stand out effectively!

PS: In my new FREE masterclass, we are ditching the idea that the industry is too saturated and instead are adopting the mindset that we are going to uncover what makes YOU and YOUR business and YOUR offerings unique and valuable. 🙌🏼

By the end of the class, you will be able to:

  • Start to move past the saturated market mindset
  • See clear evidence whether your business is standing out among your competition
  • Know what makes your business stand out from your competition
  • And know how to create your own unique value proposition (UVP) that is going to help you stand out anywhere

Mistake #1: We bank on our personality instead of our personal values.

I’m sure you’ve seen those photographer instagram accounts where the business owner posts a lot of content of them holding chick-fil-a bags or talking about their love for ice cream.

Building our personality into our brand is not a bad thing–– it actually does tend to make you more memorable to potential clients and IS NOT a “bad” strategy whatsoever!

However, what goes farther and deeper than personality branding is incorporating your personal values into your brand.

With more and more photographers banking on personality branding, we have to start to dig deeper and integrate our personal values into our business, because it sets us apart from our competitors.

Why is this important? Because more than likely, your personal values are similar to your ideal clients, meaning that when you share your values or incorporate them into your brand, you are standing out to them more than anyone else!

Sure, maybe they like chick-fil-a and ice cream too, but so do a lot of people– I mean who doesn’t? But if your brand shows that you deeply value family legacy and your ideal client also values family legacy, it doesn’t matter how many photographers who love chick-fil-a that they’ve seen–– you’re the one that’s going to stick out to them!
