3 Ways to Get Back More Time

I believe life happens in seasons. There are seasons where we work really hard or things are tough, and then there are seasons of joy and rest.

The same happens in business! There are seasons of hustle and seasons of just doing the bare minimum.

What do you do when you’re in that season of crazyyy hustle though–– when you have very limited time?

In today’s post, I’m sharing three tips on how I organize my work days when I have limited time and lots to do.

Here’s what we’ll be touching base on!

  • How to focus on what is really urgent and use the “3 D’s”
  • Making tasks feel less overwhelming with batching
  • Creating focus days/focus hours

 Define urgency

My first tip is to define what is *actually* urgent. In the chaos of life, sometimes everything feels urgent. It all needs to be done RIGHT NOW! In reality though, very few things are that urgent. They might be important, but not urgent. Urgency has to do with time limitation–– something urgent needs to be done right away or else there will be consequences. Importance is something different. An important task means that it holds more weight or value than other tasks, and therefore, needs to be prioritized. Instead of weighing all tasks as equally important, ask yourself: what is important, and what is urgent (what tasks will have bad consequences if I don’t prioritize them first?) Once you’ve narrowed down the urgent from the important, you will have a better idea of the best way to use your limited time to get things done.

 Use the “3 D’s”

The “3 D’s” are: delegate, delete, or defer. This system really helps me when I feel like I don’t have enough time to get all the things done that need to get done. In this scenario, I look at my tasks and ask myself–– what can I delegate? What can I delete or get rid of off of my list? And what can I defer until a later time? This quickly helps me see that not everything on my list needs to be done by me or needs to be done right away (or at all!) and instantly puts time back into my day.

Create focus days/hours and batch your work

By predetermining what you’re going to focus on during your work days, you eliminate the need to take the time to think about what to work on, thus saving you time and clearing your mental space. The first step to creating focus days is determining when you have the most time and putting your task blocks on those days. From there, simply decide what you will be focusing on during those times. This will save you time and keep you on task so you can get work done more quickly.

There you have it! Those are my three tips for getting your time back. I hope you found them helpful. Do you have a time-saving hack that you love? Share it with me on Instagram
